Can't say that I blame him. The sport just isn't the same as it was. Been watching and involved since the 60's. The character is gone. Guess you could say it died the day Dale Sr died.
Will miss you Carl but totally understand your reasons. The deal with Dale Jr. Still makes me worry, of his returning.Good luck and I wish you and your family much happiness, maybe we will see you in the Booth!!!!
Sorry to hear Carl-but am proud of You for knowing when to walk away - for Yourself & Your Family- Best of luck in whatever You tackle next!! You will be missed- You seem seem to be an Awesome person
Anyone who has ever thought about a career change or gave thought to what they really want out of life can relate to this. I wish Carl the best and he will be missed at the race track.
I'm really disappointed to hear this news. With Jeff Gordon gone, I don't see any hope left for NASCAR. We all know Dale Jr will never step up his game. So, here's hoping Denny Hamlin starts winning races and championships.
Sorry Jeff left, sorry tony left, now sorry Carl has left, and I'm sure that all leaving in such short order has something to do with the down hill slide of NASCAR and this speaks volumes to that. Wish them all the best in their lives, and hope NASCAR is hearing this loud and clear you are going in the wrong direction. I like Kyle and Kurt and Denny and many many others but you are losing some of the best before their time, your fans in the stands and at home, you have to wonder why, racing is not the Super Bowl it is not WWE either, please wake UP.
I always liked him, he was fun to watch on the track and when asked for an interview was always respectful. I'm sure he will be missed around the garage! 🏁🏁
Gonna miss you Carl.. you were always one of my drivers in Fantasy NASCAR, right there with Mark Martin. You will be missed and good luck on further ventures. Hope to follow you in what ever you do.
Still in shock! My 11 year old son went to bed crying last night...he fell in love with Carl when he was 2! Carl has always been an idol for him. His first favorite color was red, favorite number 99, hasn't missed a race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway since 2007 as we are season ticket holders and the only day he ever misses from school is the Friday before, but last night through his tears, he asked me why bother going anymore. That broke my heart. I am so thankful that my son has personally witnessed one of his infamous backflips and that he met Carl. The most treasured possession my son has is a program that Carl signed for my son with a personal message to him that said "Don't ever give up" and then he bent down next to my son and took a picture with him (my FB background picture). Carl is one hell of a nice guy with a lot of class. He will be truly missed.
Your profession entailed serious life risk-taking. There comes a time when you weigh the risks. We have a police officer friend who just retired after weighing the risks which caused his many injuries. He said he put in his time; now it is time to concentrate on wife and family and normal work hours. May your remaining years be blessed, Carl. Patty and Roy
