Any peaceful attitude is welcome in this war-ravaged country.Anything is better than the fanatical Islamists who misuse the peaceful nuclear contents of the Koran itself.
As great as it is, would a Buddha ask a homeless man to build him a statue? I think in this situation getting the basics of food, shelter and clothing take priority.
I think the money would be better spent on helping the people in the region, Buddhism is not about worship or idolization but about love, tolerance and impermanence.
I am mixed about this story. While on one hand I would like it if the statues were restored, it does speak to the impermanence of everything and their destruction is now a part of history as well. I'm not sure forcing homeless people out of the only shelter they have found in order to replace something is in the best interest of the community. I think the money on restoring these statues would be better spent providing basic human amenities to the area.
Wonderful, may only goodness come from this effort. Sending love and light to Afghanistan and all people involved. May they be blessed with more than enough:) Peace...
A zen master said,"if you see the patriarch you should kill the patriarch. If you see the buddha you should kill the buddha." There is no need for statues, the power of enlightenment lies within us, not in a statue.
Everywhere in the world, ugly things happen. In the Western world and the rich countries ruled by envy. In poor countries people are dying like flies. In the crisis-ridden areas governed for decades of religious hatred.People, you have finally come to their senses! We are all equal. Mine and yours is unhealthy dualism, make One of it, for you are One.Every person, every creature is imbued with the divine love, we have one universal consciousness. It's time again to be human ....!!!! I send positive vibrations to all the people in the world who are not free of hatred and to all the people who no longer have the strength to fight back against injustice.
Buddha earned his name in the history coz of his heroic deeds, love to commoners, self sacrifice and total devotion to humanity. Today policymakers of world must learn from the past for better future of this ,stay blessed ppl :)
PRIMITIVE MEN ARE ALWAYS OBSESSIVE IN THEIR WEAKNESSES FOR CONTROLING THE BELIEF'S AND SOCIAL HABIT'S OVER ALL HUMANS & THE RELIGIOUS SYSTEMS OF THEIR FELLOW MAN'S RIGHTS & WRONG'S AND ALL THE SYMBOLS THAT SUPPORT THOSE BELIEFS ,ERGO; WHEN THESE FACTIONS BECOME PHYSICALLY VIOLENT THE EXTREME FORMULA AND BEHAVIOR PATTERN OF ;BELIEF = CONTROL ;== DEATH = IS ALWAYS FORMED TO WAGE FEAR AND CONTROLT OVER THOSE WITH IN THE POWER CONTROL AREA AND HAS BEEN GOING ON THIS WAY SINCE THE CRUSADES ; KILLING ,MAIMING & TORTURING MILLIONS OF INNOCENTS OVER A THOUGHT OR SYSTEM OF IMAGINARY RELIGIOUS RULES EXPECTED TO BE FOLLOWED THROUGH TOTAL BLIND OBEDIENCE AND ALWAYS DRIVEN BY FEAR OF DIS-BELIEF !!
the funds for the restoration were never described so a question of who is funding remains, creation of a tourist business will be a better long term lively hood than just getting help. for me, if I had the choice to see a rebuilt statue and support a community in healing or a pile of rubble and a community remaining victimized, I would go see and support the growing community. making art, celebrating life, planting a garden, rebuilding and healing after trauma are all amazing things -impermanence
